Art In The Schools and Beyond

Art Smart Kids

Art Smart is a program that offers art classes to kids ages 7 to 13. Kids age 6 may attend with accompanying adult. These Saturday art classes are based around a story that is told bit-by-bit throughout the series of 15 classes. This years theme is outer space adventure and we have built our own Galaxy: “The Galaxy Artastica”.  Art Smart classes are every Saturday, except March 30th through April 27th  with 3 class times offered: 10:30-12, 1 – 2:30 and 3 -4:30.
At the Artists’ Studio Association (in the Building behind the Artists’ Co-op Gallery, next to the Cultural Center in Lincoln City) 620 NE Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City, OR. 97367

Instruction

The art instruction includes concepts like value: light and shadow, color theory, texture, line quality, space, composition, etc.

All Types of Art

The classes feature a different type of art with each class including sculpture with repurposed objects, painting, drawing, collage, engineering, Claymation/ stop gap animation and much, much more.

Saturday Fun

Art Smart kids have been meeting on Saturdays since mid-January and have created some amazing art work that some of them will have on display throughout the month.

Display Gallery

The display area adorns the almost 100-year-old stone fire place and mantle that used to keep the studio warm for all of those teachers and art students that have worked in the space since the 40’s.

Membership

Membership fee for access to all remaining classes is $15 or $5 for drop ins. Thanks to funding from Lincoln County Cultural Coalition and from generous donations from our community.

A History of Success

The Art Smart program has been providing quality, safe and fun art experiences for kids since 2014.

Slug Soup

Slug Soup is a program of the Community Arts Project (CAP) which was founded in 1988. Their mission is to create environments that enable people to freely explore healthy avenues of learning and expression in the arts, believing that this enriches the lives of all who live and work in the North Oregon Coast communities.
One of the programs provided to the community by this non-profit 501(c)(3) is a children’s summer camp called Slug Soup, “Art for Young People with Unique Tastes”, and has been well attended since 1995. This art based summer camp is a week long and open to 4-12 years of age.

Individual donors and business sponsors who support Community Arts Project’s mission, help make the cost of the camp very modest, so all who want, can attend. There is also a limited amount of financial assistance available

Nearly 100 students attend each year! There are twelve classes taught by local artists and teachers covering several different art mediums and styles such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, collage, stop animation, mosaics, and more.

For more information about Slug Soup, to receive a registration flyer, or to volunteer, contact Community Arts Project at communityartsproject101@gmail.com.
